Effect of Supportive Therapy on Family’s Burden in Caring for Mental Disorders
Abstract
There are still many people with mental disorders (ODGJ) who are in the midst of society and they usually show symptoms with screaming unclear, begging money to neighbors and people around, even to angry. This situation causes the burden, both for society and government. Especially families, because families who everyday have to meet and care them. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of supportive therapy on the burden felt by the family in treating ODGJ. The design of this study is a quasy-experiment pre-post test with control group. The sample of this study is the family that caring ODGJ in the Work Area of Puskesmas Balowerti, by using purposive sampling, got the sample number 24 respondents. This study shows that supportive therapy significantly has an effect on reducing family’s burden in caring ODGJ, with p-value = 0.000. Supportive therapy is very effective in reducing the burden of families who care for ODGJ, because supportive therapy is a group therapy that gathers families with ODGJ into one, so that families can share the burden, both subjective and objective burden. The results of this study can be followed up with the holding of independent groups, by requesting the Puskesmas as a facilitator.
