The Effect of Carrot Juice to Decrease Blood Pressure in Hypertension Patients

Abstract

Hypertension is a common health problem in developed and developing countries. Carrots containing potassium can lower blood pressure. The research objective determine the effect of carrot juice consumption on blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients. Research was carried out on 17-24 April 2016. Observational research, analytic approach to design one group pre test post and research instruments observation sheets, sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. The study population all people who suffer from hypertension in the village Ngrance. Samples were taken by using purposive sampling number 17. The independent variables carrot juice consumption, the dependent variable blood pressure in patients with hypertension.  Statistic were analyzed by Wilcoxon Signed Rank test.. The result showed blood pressure in patients with hypertension prior to total consumption of carrot juice 17 respondents almost entirely from the respondents, namely 8 respondents (64,7%) hypertension stage 1, after consuming the juice carrot as much as 6 respondents (35,3%) have normal blood pressure. The statistical test statistical test Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. obtained P Value= 0,000 < 0,05 so H1 accepted, meaning that there is the effect of consumption of carrot juice to the reduction of blood pressure in patients with hypertension. It was concluded that the content of potassium in carrot juice can lower blood pressure, avoid blockage of the arteries, prevent stroke and provide power to think. Consumption of carrot juice can be used as an alternative in lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
